An Important Message about our Be Like Jake Program
September 4, 2021
Last month, Airdrie and District Victims Assistance Society (ADVAS) launched our second annual Be Like Jake program. With the support of Davis Chevrolet GMC Buick in Airdrie, AB, as well as a host of generous individual donors – we have been engaging with the communities served by ADVAS highly trained Victims Advocates about the people and groups that are making a difference in our community. Inspired by Jake, a 2021 Community Justice Award Winner, we have been having great conversations about the importance of being active participants in our community. We have heard heartwarming stories about young people who have a flair for philanthropy that inspires entire communities, businesses – like Davis – who teach their teams that understanding our communities is as important as understanding the features of the vehicle you are selling, and charitable organizations that are making a positive impact every day.
We are so excited to share what we have learned about those who are being Like Jake, and we had planned to meet you all next weekend for an in-person celebration. We wanted to thank you for your support, and give you the opportunity to meet Jake and our nominees for the Be Like Jake Awards.
However, following the most recent update from the Government of Alberta related to the ongoing global pandemic we are reformulating our plans. The current advice from the Chief Medical Officer of Health is to limit indoor gatherings to no more than 2 cohort families and no more than 10 people for unvaccinated people. We know that many of our supporters and Jake’s fans are under 12 and cannot be vaccinated, or have other reasons why they are not vaccinated at this time.
ADVAS is no longer planning an in-person gathering for September 2021 to celebrate our Be Like Jake Program.
However, we are working with our team and partners to deliver a celebration of Jake, ADVAS Advocates, and amazing community members in the near future. We hope that you will join us online for this event – full details coming soon.
Please continue to support ADVAS and Jake. ADVAS Advocates continue to serve members of our community every hour of every day. As domestic violence rates increase and sudden deaths due to mental health crises and substance use also leave victims suffering, ADVAS continues to need your support.
Your donations are used wisely, with nearly 91% of every donation invested in our charitable programs.
The team at ADVAS, our Board of Directors and Advocates extend a heartfelt Thank You! to Glenn and the team at Davis, to all of our donors, and to all who have followed the campaign, submitted nominations, and encouraged others to support the essential work that ADVAS is doing.
